The members of the Lions Club of Methven work on community service projects and raise funds for its Charitable Trust via various activities. These funds are distributed back to the community through the trust.
The Charitable Trust meets regularly to assess applications for funds. Those that best fit the aims of the trust and have a tangible benefit to the community take priority for the available funds.
The Objects and Purposes of the Club’s Constitution summarised:
To promote the improvement of literacy and numeracy
The provision of scholarships and prizes for academic achievement
To improve our community by meeting the needs of the aged or infirm, vulnerable women and young people, those affected by poverty, and public health needs
To promote the development of leadership and vocational skills in the community
To improve any Public amenities including public halls, libraries, museums, parks and gardens, sporting and pool facilities of a similar nature
Care for the natural environment
Protection of human life through rescue and emergency services
Protection of the welfare of animals
To provide assistance to other charitable organisations through hands on service, fund raising events and or the provision of sponsorship
